Author's Notes: I want to say that you to say thank you to Merrion on the Little Danny list for that bloody bunny. It has taken roost in here. I also want to thank Michelle ( http://www.angelfire.com/realm3/ekur/stargate.html ) for the encouragement to just post this. Thanks!
"You just had to touch that, didn't you?" questioned a deep male voice. "Hey! All I did was run my fingers over the carvings to see how recently they were done. It is nothing that I haven't done a thousand times before!" came the indignant reply from what sounded like a little boy. "Yes, but this time there was a warning about not touching! Even I could read that!" snapped back the first voice. " Well, yes, there was that. And given what we know now, we know why it was there. But I still say...." " Acht!" interrupted the first voice, sounding closer. "All I can say is that I hope this has cured your tendency to touch strange carvings without fully reading them first!" "Yes, Jack. It has. Since I cannot reach them to touch them!" said the irritated little boy. Walking up the stairs to the briefing room were two members of SG-1 (past and present), the flagship team of the SGC. One was a tall, sliver haired man who exuded an air of long suffering patience. Walking beside him was a sandy blond haired boy who looked no more than 10, wearing glasses and glaring up at the older man. The air between them crackled with the tension of an old argument that had taken on new life and urgency. Watching this were the remaining three members of SG-1 and General Landry. "Gentlemen, shall we get this briefing started so a solution to the problem can be found?" General Landry said evenly. "We need to be sure of just what Dr. Jackson has touched, if there is a way to reverse the resultant transformation and what to do while all of this is going on." "Yes, sir," came the reply from Daniel and a nod from General O'Neill. Walking to the table, they sat down beside each other; Daniel sighed, and looking disgusted at his new body, scrambled up to sit on his knees, now able to see the reports stacked in front of Colonel Carter. "Sam? Have you got a copy for me?" he asked. "Sure,Daniel, here is your copy." Sam slid one copy of the report to Daniel and a second to O'Neill. "Sir, here is your copy as well." "Thanks,Carter," replied her former CO as he opened the report to begin reading it. Seeing this, the remaining three members of the original SG-1 paused to stare at him. "What? I always read your reports. I just didn't always understand them!" he said. "Sorry, sir. It is just... Odd seeing you reading a report,"came the murmured reply from Sam. "Indeed, O'Neill. You have frequently stated that you do not do paperwork, nor do you read reports prepared by ColonelCarter or DanielJackson." rumbled Teal'c. "Well, this I need to read so we can get Danny back to normal. Can you imagine what will happen if this is permanent? The Trust would love to get their grubby paws on him. To say nothing of some of the other agencies out there," complained Jack as he skimmed the report in his hand. "Besides, I have seen the pictures and video from the site and I just want a confirmation of the translation I did." So saying, he tossed the report onto the table and leaned back in his chair. "Thank you, General O'Neill, for your confidence in my department!" snapped Daniel. "Gentlemen! Can we get to the point of this meeting?" asked Landry. "Dr. Jackson, have you had a chance to review the footage of the carvings on P3X-524? Do we have any idea of who built those ruins, how long ago, and where are they now?" Daniel moved so he was kneeling up, looking straight at Landry. "My department and I have reviewed the footage, rubbings and pictures from P3X-524, and while most of the carvings are in the language of the Ancients, there is a fair amount another language. Given the resources of the SGC database, we have determined that SG-1 has come across this language before. Ernest's world; the world where the four races met." Sam gasped and looked at Jack and Teal'c. That mission had been very early in the history of SG-1, and had been one of a number where they had almost died. They had managed to rescue Ernest Littlefield and when they had had to abandon the planet; the journal that Ernest had written while there was one of the few things that came back with them. Daniel had also managed to record some video footage of four distinct languages written on the walls of a central meeting room. Later, research and discoveries had revealed that the writing was that of the Ancients, the Nox, the Asgard and the fourth was postulated to be the language of the Furlings. SG-1 had either met or encountered all of the races except the Furlings, and popular opinion (in the Anthropology department at least) had that they were extinct. If the new ruins were younger than the ones on Ernest's world, then the Furlings had been around longer than was thought. Also, this new discovery might provide some new technology to augment what they had or make sense of what was stored at Area 51. Now Daniel was stating that they had a larger sample of the written language associated with the Furlings and that they may have been behind his downsizing. "As far as who built the city, it seems to be a blending of the Ancients and the Furlings. We do have some evidence of what Furling architecture looks like, thanks to Jack's trip to Col. Maybourne's moon. The age of the ruins is thus far unknown. And no, we do not know where they have gone. The answer to that question may lie in the untranslated portions of the carvings. My department is working on the problem right now. So far we have had little progress to report." Daniel sat back against his heels as he finished his report to General Landry.
